I Scream Factory (ISF) is a non-profit web-gallery and collective project showcasing ice cream-inspired work across fashion, photography, film and fine art.
Inspired by a segment of Jim Jarmusch's Down By Law (1986) in which Bob Benigni, an Italian cellmate, quotes from his “book of English” – “I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice-cream”. This line becomes a maniacal recitation. Ice Cream, a fast-melting delicacy, seems to embody various dimensions of life itself. Delicate yet cold, and of ephemeral pleasure... and those who eat it, know it.
Within just four years Alexandra Plesner‘s ice cream-centred MA project for Central Saint Martins has become a site for artistic activity, and an invitation to reconsider banal objects in our everyday surroundings. ISF's fast-growing audience has enjoyed works from visual artists around the world, whose different interpretations and relationships to ice cream vary from fantasy to phantom memory.
